My husband unexpectedly bought a red dress for his sister-in-law, claiming it was her birthday, even though he'd ignored his own wife's birthday two days earlier. When I discovered the truth about him, the pain was unbearable.
Two days ago was my birthday. My husband—Arjun Sharma—only sent me a quick "Happy Birthday" message before leaving for work. No flowers, no gift, no dinner. I consoled myself: "He must be busy, let it go."
But this afternoon, when I walked into my apartment in Andheri, there was a large box on the couch. Inside was a striking red dress. Before I could ask him anything, Arjun smiled and said:
"Oh, this dress is for Priya, my sister-in-law. Her birthday is tomorrow."
I froze. Priya—the wife of Rohan, Arjun's younger brother. He remembered her special day every year without fail, but somehow forgot his own wife's.
That night I couldn't sleep. The image of Arjun in that red dress haunted me. Suspicion gnawed at me.
The first clue was the receipt: it was dated last week – just before my birthday. I secretly checked Arjun's phone and found WhatsApp messages:
Arjun: "This dress will look great on you. Try it on tomorrow."
Priya: "I'm afraid someone might see us..."
Arjun: "Don't worry, I'll be there."
My hands were shaking, and I decided to follow him.
The next day, as if I wanted to leave work early, I parked outside a café in Bandra. Inside, Arjun and Priya were sitting close together; Priya was wearing the exact same red dress. Their expressions were far from those of in-laws.
I quietly snapped a photo, my chest hollow. That evening at home, I silently placed the photo on the table. Arjun saw it, his face turning pale. Rohan came in, saw the photo, and both brothers froze.
At that moment it dawned on me: the red dress was not an innocent gift, but evidence of a secret hidden long enough to destroy two families.
The air grew thicker; only the clock ticked. Rohan, trembling, asked:
“Brother… with my wife… what?”
Arjun bowed silently. Priya burst into tears:
" I'm sorry… "
I forced myself to calm down:
"I want the whole truth."
